Subscriptions and Pots. Set it, cap it, stop it.

Put money aside in a pot. Set up regular payments from it. The pot balance is the most they can ever take. Pause or cancel any time, without asking anyone.

Pots

A pot is a named account inside your wallet, like Rent or Savings. It has its own balance. You fill it from your main account, and regular payments come out of it. If a pot is empty, nothing more can leave it.

Each pot has a Stop this pot switch, a Top up option, and its own History of every payment, with a link to each transaction on chain.

Standing orders and subscriptions

A standing order pays a person or a paymail a fixed dollar amount: daily, weekly or monthly. You choose the first payment date and, if you like, how many payments to make.

A subscription is the same thing paid to an app or service. Today that means our own services, bChat and the $b agent, and only in bWalletX.

Payments go out when you open the app on or after each date. If notifications are on, the wallet reminds you the day before, and tells you when a pot is running low or a payment fails. If you miss a few dates, the next open catches up, up to three payments; more than that, it asks you first.

What works today

Set one up

  1. Open Settings and tap Subscriptions.
  2. Create a pot and give it a name.
  3. Fund it from your main account.
  4. Add a payment: who to pay, the amount in dollars, how often, the first date and, optionally, how many payments.

See and cancel them

Open Settings › Subscriptions and tap a pot. Each payment has a card showing who it pays, how much, and the next date. Tap Pause to hold it, Resume to restart it, or Cancel to end it. To stop everything in a pot at once, use Stop this pot.

Every payment shows in the pot’s History. In the wallet’s History screen, payments from a pot are labelled “pot payment”.

The 1¢ a day idea

One idea is that unlocking subscriptions to apps and services costs 1¢ a day, paid from a pot like anything else. That is not switched on. Nobody is charged for it today, and it would never be on in the App Store or Google Play edition. Pots and standing orders stay free.
